Church Council and Leadership Team

Barbara Vernon – Chairperson Barb is responsible for leading the team and keeping leadership focused on our visions and goals, Barb is an experienced organizer and has a gift for empowering and encouraging others to use their gifts. Barb is a national trainer for professionals who work with child victims. She believes all lives matter and gives a voice for justice to many who have been silenced.

William Shaw – Vice Chairperson Bill is responsible for assisting the Chairperson with leading the team. Bill believes we are called to be out in the community, caring for all people. He puts that belief in action through a group he helped start that serves people through laundry. Bill and his group go to laundromats and by paying for folks’ washers and dryers, they love people … one quarter at a time. Bill also has a heart for radical hospitality and can often be seen greeting and welcoming folks to SHCC.

David Moore – Finance Dave is responsible for recording our offerings, sending statements of giving, and other bank matters. Dave is a successful business man with a talent for all things administrative. He is passionate about the Kingdom and believes we all have gifts to help build it. Dave is a gifted musician who uses his amazing abilities to lead us in worship. Dave has a generous and compassionate heart for all people.

Elaine Pyle – Staff Parish Relations Team Leader. Elaine is responsible for issues related to staff and serves as a liaison between the congregation and the leadership team. Elaine is a retired teacher and brings to the council a fair and objective viewpoint. She has a heart for children and can often be seen creating art with the children during ArtWalk.

Betsy Ayrea Delfine – Outreach Team Leader Betsy is responsible for providing opportunities for our faith community to be out in our neighborhoods and city, sharing the Good News through service. Betsy has a passion for social justice and community building. She founded a local program which empowers women and trains them for success.

Mike Delfine – Welcome/Worship Team Leader Mike is responsible for providing a welcoming and inviting place here at SHCC, facilitating meaningful worship elements, and recruiting the tech team. Mike practices radical hospitality – his warm demeaner makes everyone feel like they are home. Mike works with challenged adults, training them to be successful at life. Mike is also one of the few people that can navigate our sometimes tempermental sound board.

Name Here – Facilities Team Leader John is responsible for repairing and maintaining our physical space, assembling work teams as needed, scheduling repairs and keeping our space in good working order. John is a rental property owner in Elkhart and uses his passion for building the Kingdom to tell his tenants the Good News of Jesus Christ. John is active with the youth of SHCC and the community and with RETA. He is also an amazing guitar player who uses his gifts on our praise team.

Audra Smith- Recorder – Audra is responsible for recording discussion during Council meetings, maintaining vital statistics – information on the faith community, preparing annual reports and helping to relay information. Audra is an experienced administrator who brings great organizational, marketing and training skills to the table. Audra also has a beautiful singing voice and often leads the praise team for worship.

Laurie Garber – Laurie can be found serving at every SHCC event. Laurie has a heart for and is a natural magnet for children and youth. She is the one our teen girls go to for advice on how to navigate life. A tireless servant, she is especially keen on reaching the children in downtown Elkhart and the surrounding area. Laurie is extremely creative and has a talent for taking trash to treasure – making beautiful pieces of art from found things.

Katie Pyle – Katie serves on our Welcome and Worship team. A graphic designer by trade, Katie is a gifted and talented artist. She creates beautiful murals for our front windows and will use her creative abilities to provide beautiful and meaningful worship elements to inspire people and draw them closer to the Creator. Katie can be found serving during ArtWalk, assisting in Heart of the Arts classes and is active in Young Adult activities.

Brandon Lechleidner – Brandon serves whenever and however he can. He is the lead for Bike Night activities, helps with tech, provides handyman services and is an amazing drummer, frequently providing the beat for our wonderful praise team.
